Since ancient times women (also men) were grooming themselves and always tried to look their best, not only it made them look good but they also were feeling great. All the ingredients were merely from mother nature. People were more connected to the earth and used her resources wisely. In today’s day and age the majority of beauty industry products are filled with toxins and chemicals, which can make serious damage to our skin, body and our overall health. We are not coming from a judging point of view, there is room and space for all products and companies in the world but in this article i wanted to bring forward our ancestors beauty tips.
In Ancient Egypt beauty procedures were a very important daily ritual it has also spiritual connections.
People in ancient Egypt bathe in milk and honey filled with roses and other flowers to make their skin soft, healthy and rejuvenated. Milk with the essence of flowers soothing and smoothing the skin and fights ageing.
In our times this procedure can be done easily by adding petals of flowers to your bath or putting few drops of your favorite flowery essential oils. Not only it will give you flawless skin it will enhance your good mood and strengthen your mental health.
We cannot deny the fact that oils were a major component in the ancient beauty industry as much as it today.
Greeks, Romans and Egyptians used vegetables oils to moisturize their skin and prevent skin damage from harsh climate.
They used olive, almond, avocado and many more oils to treat and benefit their skin.
In today’s society it seems “so strange” to put olive oil to your skin when in reality it should be a natural process. We are so blind from the mainstream commercials and brands that we forgot the true essence of beauty.
Another important factor is the use of perfumes, we are buying mainstream perfumes filled with toxins and chemicals that are ruing our health. It is proven that many ingredients in the mainstream perfume industry are extremely dangerous to our health. Instead of investing in chemical synthetic scents it is better to purchase essential oils that are made from nature and to use them as your daily perfume. I have noticed many times that the mainstream perfumes always giving me headaches. I stopped using them. I put few drops of my favorite essential oils mixed with some carrier oil and it lasts all day, not only I have natural wonderful smell it also gives tremendous benefits to my body and mind.
Herbs, spices, essential oils and oils were extremely important in ancient times as much as it today.
You can save hundred of dollars by using your kitchen ingredients for beauty treatments.
Milk and honey were very famous in facial masks, bathes and beauty procedures. Herbs and spices used for healing and cosmetics. We cannot deny the fact that mother nature’s riches are beneficial for our health and beauty.
It is amusing to watch people buying 100 dollar toxic perfume at the drug store when at the shelf near you have 15 dollar essential oil. (Not all essential oils are cheap – they have various price range – they can be also extremely expensive) You can even make your own creams and perfumes at home. This is a fun process and you know exactly what are you putting on your body.
At the end it depends on your lifestyle. What are your preferences? Some people can happily enjoy mainstream beauty products, while others are not.
In ancient times they used also dangerous ingredients when it came to beauty obsession, the woman of ancient Greece tried to maintain their fair complexion by using lead, which can be poisonous. They also used blood and animal fat for nail polish creating pink and red shades, obviously i will prefer to buy a modern nail polish at the drug store. But when it comes to my creams, lotions and perfumes i will stick with the ancients.
Honor and respect your mother nature and your ancestors.
